Hon. Anthony Majak Achuoth Malek is a statistician, public policy specialist, and academic currently serving as Undersecretary for Cooperatives Development in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS). He brings a strong analytical and policy-oriented background to national efforts aimed at strengthening cooperative systems as a foundation for inclusive agricultural transformation, rural enterprise development, and sustainable livelihoods in South Sudan.

Hon. Majak is a Lecturer at the University of Juba, School of Economics and Social Studies, where he teaches and contributes to policy-relevant research in economics, development planning, and public sector governance. He holds a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Juba, obtained shortly before his appointment as a lecturer in 2024, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Development from Uganda Christian University, earned in 2022. His academic training as a statistician underpins his evidence-based approach to policy formulation, planning, and programme oversight.

Beyond academia, Hon. Majak has accumulated broad experience across government planning, public finance, and international representation. In 2016, he served as Director of Planning at the Warrap State Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, where he led sectoral planning, budgeting, and coordination of development programmes. He later worked under a special assignment at the Ministry of Finance and Planning in the Office of the Minister in 2020, contributing to strategic planning and fiscal coordination processes at the national level.

As Undersecretary for Cooperatives Development, Hon. Anthony Majak provides strategic leadership to the cooperatives sub-sector, overseeing policies and programmes aimed at revitalizing farmer organizations, strengthening cooperative governance, and enhancing access to markets, finance, and value chains. His work focuses on positioning cooperatives as viable economic institutions capable of driving agricultural commercialization, job creation—particularly for youth and women—and broad-based economic inclusion.

Hon. Majak continues to contribute to South Sudan’s agricultural and economic development agenda by combining academic rigor, policy expertise, and practical government experience, in support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s mandate to promote sustainable agriculture, resilient livelihoods, and cooperative-led growth nationwide.
