Directorate of Food Security Policy and Stakeholder Coordination

The Directorate of Food Security Policy and Stakeholder Coordination (FSAC) is one of the directorates of the National Ministry of Agriculture & Food Security Republic of South Sudan, which is responsible for formulating relevant policies necessary for executing food security functions of the ministry, and contribute towards food and nutrition security issues, and malnutrition across the country together with other relevant stakeholders.

Strategic Objectives
- To coordinate policy formulation and implementation for the robust development of the food and nutrition security sector.
- To put up a framework for routine monitoring of the food and nutrition securities sector in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders and ensure that challenges in food and nutrition insecurities are rapidly addressed.
- To develop, maintain and routinely evaluate workplans and budgets relevant to the food and nutrition security sector and ensure that all objectives and tasks adequately meet food security requirements.
- To coordinate with various stakeholders on initiation and implementation of policies and strategies on maintaining an adequate food reserve to meet future unforeseen needs.
- To be the basis for coordination with state level stakeholders and ensure that the national level policies on food and nutrition security are communicated, interpreted, understood and implemented in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
- To promote capacity building capacity across stakeholders and at all levels to equip them with skills necessary to achieve food and nutrition security.
Functions of the Directorate
- Coordinate implementation of food and nutrition security and nutrition interventions and policies in the Republic of South Sudan through various government agencies and international non-governmental organizations.
- Compile and review food and nutrition security workplans and subsequent budget proposals and provide technical recommendations to the directorate’s steering committee to ensure that food security and nutrition issues are highlighted in the government policies and strategies are adequately addressed and mainstreamed into all key ministries/commissions budget plans.
- Monitor the food and nutrition security situation in the country and evaluate progress on the implementation of food and nutrition security policies and programmes.
- Advise the steering committee on technical issues related to implementation of the different government approved programmes on food and nutrition security.
- Initiate the establishment and collaborate with other stakeholders in the management of a national strategic food reserve as will be directed by the South Sudan Food Reserve Council.
- Liaise with state-level counterpart bodies in coordinating and monitoring the implementation of national food and nutrition security policies and programmes at the sub-national levels.
- Initiate and facilitate capacity building activities at various levels of implementation to promote understanding of the principles and requirements of achieving food and nutrition.
- Serve as the general secretariat of the republic of South Sudan Food National Food Security Council.
- Perform any other duties as many be directed by SSFSC or the minister responsible for administration of food and Nutrition.
